Yasmine El Shamy

Yasmine ElShamy obtained a BA in Psychology from the American University in Cairo, a diploma in clinical applied psychology from Cairo University, and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Saint Michael’s College, U.S. Yasmine gained rich experience working in both the public and private sectors, as well as working in the USA and Egypt with various nationalities.

She completed internships in adult psychiatry and addiction at ElMashfa Psychiatric and Physical Rehabilitation Hospital and Kasr ElAiny Hospital. Yasmine then worked privately for several years with refugees at Médecins Sans Frontières, suffering from trauma and re-allocation problems. Yasmine had a year-long placement in the US as a college counsellor at the University of Vermont counselling centre, working with college students on personal and academic concerns. She also worked as a residential counsellor at the Hospital Diversion Program, an American residential facility, providing psychological support for at-risk adolescents.

Yasmine has experience working with clients suffering from anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, borderline personality disorder, self-esteem issues, grief, and relationship problems.
Yasmine has received training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), intensive training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) from the Linehan Institute, and training in EMDR from Trauma Aid UK.
Yasmine brings an eclectic, trauma-informed, and client-centred approach to her work and aims to provide a supportive and safe environment for her clients to be able to fully express themselves. She approaches her clients with empathy, genuineness, and understanding and tailors treatment goals based on client needs. Yasmine believes that a client is the number one expert on their life and accordingly sees her role as being to guide them towards deeper self-awareness and to self-actualize and achieve their goals, not to give them advice about how to run their life.

Yasmine is comfortable conducting sessions in Arabic, English, and German.
